By Casey N. Armstrong, Author of Lit From Within: A Self-Care Journey Through Scent and Stillness
Juneteenth is more than a historical celebration. It is a reminder that freedom is not only something we acknowledge but something we intentionally live every day.
Observed on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and symbolizes resilience, hope, and the continued pursuit of equity and opportunity. While we honor the sacrifices and triumphs of those who came before us, we are also invited to reflect on what freedom means in our own lives today.
As the author of Lit From Within, I often speak about the importance of creating space for self-care, stillness, and intentional living. Freedom is not solely external; it is also internal. It is the freedom to rest without guilt, to prioritize our mental well-being, to heal, and to become the healthiest version of ourselves.
Juneteenth reminds us that our greatest legacy is not simply in what we accomplish, but in how we care for ourselves and others along the journey.
In a world that constantly demands more of us, choosing peace is an act of courage. Choosing balance is an act of strength. Choosing yourself is an act of freedom.
Today, may we honor those who paved the way by embracing joy, protecting our peace, and creating lives that are rooted in purpose and possibility.
As we celebrate Juneteenth, let us remember this simple truth: freedom begins within.
May we continue to shine, heal, and live lit from within.
Reflection Question: What is one way you will intentionally choose freedom, peace, or self-care today?
